Stella & Chewy’s

Like most people, I have a dog and I love him.  He’s one of the family, plain and simple.  However, he’s a German Shepherd and a finicky little bitch when it comes to food.  Note: this only applies to dog food – he’ll eat anything people food including popcorn and yellow gummy bears (that’s right the yellow ones.  I won’t even eat the yellow ones and I love gummy bears…bastard).  Anyway, I have gone through at least eight different types of dry food, all without success.  I first tried the “he’ll eat eventually” approach.  Three days later, that still wasn’t working and he looked more like cancer patient than guard dog…  I progressed to tempting him – this long process included dog treats, pieces of meat and then eventually sprinkling shredded and parmesan cheese.  The best part was that he would lick the cheese off the food and then leave it there and then look at me with a “that’s the best you got” stare.  Finally, it got to hand feeding.   After I realized that I was hand feeding my adult dog like a infant I had to stop and say fuck that.  Not only that, but he was diagnosed with arthritis and is now over eight years old so I wanted to put natural stuff in his body to maybe keep him alive longer.  I started doing the Raw food diet thinking that he would like it since he eats chicken, beef and everything else I cook.  It was a step up, but it was messy, difficult to get a hold of and required too much prep.  Even then, he still needed to be persuaded.   I did some research and found this stuff:

It isn’t cheap at $29 for the large bags, which last about four days (varies by dog size), but it is seriously puppy crack.  There’s around six different flavors and they all have the same result – looks like he wants to eat through the bottom of the metal bowl.  I even started feeding him the rabbit one, just so he could know what the bunnies he was chasing in the back yard tasted like.  Lastly, they are easy.  Portioned patties that you just thaw overnight and drop in the bowl.  Done.  Snaps…

Renaissance Chicago

I travel to most of the major cities in the US and frequently I end up staying in an average Marriott that looks like the rest.  The Renaissance Chicago is definitely one of the nicer ones.  The location is amazingly convenient, especially if you are there on business.  The beds are less like the old mattress at your grandma’s house that she’s had since WWII and more like something you would pay to put in your home.  Take a look at the view and tell me it’s not worth a second look.  Oh and the towels are legit too… Sounds stupid, but I like not drying myself off with sandpaper.

I personally wouldn’t live in Chicago, but if I’ve got to suck it up, this isn’t a bad place.  Snaps…

Just Outstanding IPA

Just Outstanding is a crazy good IPA brewed out of Kern River Brewery.  Definitely strong at almost 7% ABV and seemingly hard to get a hold of.  Last place I had it was an Irish Bar just outside of the Gas Lamp San Diego.  There was a line out the door for the walk-up beer line simply because of Just Outstanding.  Snaps…
