Buceo 95

Living in New York can be a delectable dream for some people because there are so many varies of food and amazing restaurants; but I don’t think anyone has ever said, “you must go to the Upper West Side, it is a culinary delight!”.   Outside of a few better than average restaurants, the UWS is littered with every variety of Asian (Chinese, Thai, Sushi) that is all pretty mediocre, a solid Cuban spot, Pio Pio, and then some OK Mexican wannabe spots.  Personally, I’m not a foodie, not even close.  In fact, I was the person that was pissed I couldn’t get Wendy’s or Taco Bell without going too far south or driving to Jersey…  What can I say – sometimes I just want 4 chicken soft taco with 2 packs of “Fire” sauce…  However, I have eaten at a lot of nice restaurants and know when food is better than just good.  Buceo 95 is just that, it’s amazing.

My wife and I found this Tapas restaurant a few weeks into living there on 95th and Amsterdam and it quickly became our favorite restaurant.  The menu has a variety of vegetables, fish and meat as well as some cheeses and pastries.  Everything is ridiculously flavorful and since they are small plates that are reasonably priced, we always had 5 or 6 dishes between the two of us.  The only time I was disappointed was when I ordered the shark (I believe it was a special).  I really only ordered it because I wanted to say I ate a fucking shark, but it was just okay…  On the beverage side, they have a full bar and a good wine list, but the sangria is the way to go.  Goes down too smooth – you’ll go through a pitcher and be tempted to order another.  No reservations that I’m aware of but they will call your cell phone when your table is ready and we never had to wait longer than 30 minutes or so on the weekend.  Drinks, food and tip for two run a reasonable $100 – $125.  Snaps…
